Will Rogers' name back in portal

Washington quarterback Will Rogers has re-entered the portal as a grad transfer, The Athletic has learned.

The Mississippi State transfer is back on the market after head coach Kalen DeBoer left for Alabama. SEC's all-time leader in pass attempts and completions.

Reminder: The portal entry doesn’t automatically mean Rogers is leaving Washington. It gives him the freedom to communicate with other schools.

These days, you can’t rule out the possibility that the next head coach brings a quarterback with him.

What Elijah Hills brings to Wisconsin

Albany defensive lineman transfer Elijah Hills spent the first week of 2024 living out of a suitcase while flying from school to school and trying to decide his football future. It was both exhilarating and exhausting as he traveled to Tulane, Houston, West Virginia and, finally, Wisconsin.

When Hills landed in Madison on Sunday directly from his visit to Morgantown, W.V., he knew he didn’t have much time. He arrived around 10 a.m. and left campus for the airport less than six hours later because he had a return flight scheduled for 6 p.m. But Hills’ brief stay proved long enough to provide him with the information he needed to reach an important conclusion: He was ready to play for the Badgers.

Hills informed defensive line coach Greg Scruggs before he left and publicly announced his commitment Tuesday to become the 13th and potentially final scholarship transfer portal addition of this cycle.

Jayden Maiava flips from Georgia to USC

CFB transfer portal tracker (103)

Never mind? A day after Georgia seemed to have a new quarterback, former UNLV starter Jayden Maiava changed his mind and will go to USC. That’s at least what his father told ESPN late on Tuesday night.

Maiava himself hasn’t announced it. The initial Georgia commitment was put out by Maiava’s NIL representation group, although the player did give at least one interview. It bears noting that Maiava said publicly he was staying at UNLV only to enter the portal, so maybe this isn’t final, at least until he enrolls at USC.

But if Georgia isn’t the destination, the Bulldogs are back to where they were before, which didn’t seem a terrible spot: Carson Beck the entrenched starter, backup Gunner Stockton entering his third year and freshman Ryan Puglisi as the third scholarship quarterback. Still, the reasoning for going after Maiava was for an experienced backup in case something happened to Beck, and competition for the starter once Beck leaves. That kind of player may not be available anymore in the portal, but Georgia will keep its eye open.
