Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser hair removal is a clinically proven, safe and effective, long-term removal of unwanted hair across various areas of your body.
While traditional methods of hair removal such as waxing and shaving, are short-term and can often lead to ingrown hairs, IPL and laser hair removalyieldslonger-lasting results.
Laser and IPL targets the pigment (melanin) in your hair, effectively destroying the hair follicle and causing it to fall away without damaging the surrounding cells.Treatment is safeand virtually painless, leaving your skin smooth and hair-free.
IPL is best suited to a lighter skin tone; however our laser machine can treat any skin type thanks to the two laser systems – a 755 nm Alexandrite laser and a high powered 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser. The addition of the YAG laser allows us to treat patients of darker skin types.
The treatment is only effective on growing hairs, because they are still attached to the follicle. Hair grows in cycles and the majority of it is in a resting phase. Therefore, a minimum course of 6 sessions is recommended to capture the different growing cycles. IPL and laser hair removal is most successful on dark hairs.

As the treatment relies on absorption of light in the pigment of the hair, the best results are seen on dark hairs. Blonde, grey or white hairs are unsuitable for treatment with IPL but can still be treated by electrolysis.
The unique software of Ellipse is pre-programmed for different skin colours and adjusts energy output to match your skin’s requirements.
IPL hair removal is not suited to those with cancer or an active infection, those taking medication that makes them photosensitive, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. However, we will always take care to assess you on an individual basisat your initial consultation.
Mild discomfort may be felt but it’s not painful. Most people describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping against their skin.
Large areas, such as full back or legs, can be treated in 1-2 hours but smaller areas, such as the upper lip or chin, can be treated in as little as 15-20 minutes.
IPL hair removal treatment requires no downtime and you are, therefore, able to return to your daily activities immediately.You might feel mild discomfort and slight redness at the time of treatment, but hair should begin to fall away from the treated area over the next two weeks.
Once thehair follicle has been damagedit will be unable to grow new hair.There will be the inevitable fewthat escape the IPL,however, and so we recommend theoccasional follow-up treatment to ensure optimal, long-lasting results.
This will depend on several factors, such as your skin type, the amount of hair, and your hair growth cycle.Generally, a minimum course of 6 treatments is recommended at 1-2 month intervals, depending on which area is being treated. Ongoing maintenance may be required, but this is something we are happy to discuss at your initial consultation.
