About Upma Kozhukattai | Kara Pidi Kozhukattai
Upma, uppumavu, or uppittu is a breakfast dish from the Indian subcontinent that is most common in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, TamilNadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtrian, and Sri Lankan Tamil. It is made from dry-roasted semolina or coarse rice flour. Arisi Upma is a traditional and simple breakfast or evening tiffin. Its
a common breakfast in most Tamil Brahmin households. Arisi Upma is made with raw rice, toor dal, pepper, and seasoning ingredients. Rice and dal are pounded to a rava-like coarse powder with peppercorns first.
Kozhukkattai, also known as kozhukatta, is a popular South Indian dumpling made from rice flour and filled with grated coconut, jaggery, or chakkavaratti. Kozhukattai, while typically sweet, can occasionally be stuffed with a savoury filling. Kerala Christians prepare it on the Saturday before Palm Sunday, hence the name
Kozhukatta Saturday. Modak is a similar dish that is prepared in other parts of India. This is a popular dish for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

Ingredients for Upma Kozhukattai Recipe
Rice Rava / Arisi Rava / Broken Rice :
Rice rava is simply coarsely ground rice or rice semolina. Because rice semolina is gluten free, it is beneficial to those who are gluten intolerant. It contains a lot of carbohydrates and thus a lot of energy. Rice semolina increases your intake of B-complex vitamins, particularly folate and thiamine.
Urad dal :
When cooked, urad has an earthy flavour and an unusual mucousy texture.
Dry Red Chilli :
Dry red chilli is a condiment that enhances the flavour and colour of food. It contains medicinal and hom*oeopathic properties. We provide red chillies that are uniform in shape and size. It is mostly used to season foods. The chillies have a strong flavour.
