"We are Italian and if you go through my recipes you'll find alot of wonderful, quick and easy pasta dishes. We love our pasta and we love garlic, too! Serve this with garlic Texas toast. I can't eat pasta much anymore because I'm diabetic but my husband and daughter love it so I keep making it for them. I usually eat salmon (I have one or two good ones for salmon, too- check them out)."

ingredients

  • 1 lb penne pasta
  • 1 lb broccoli floret (I use frozen)
  • 8 ounces Italian sausage, cut in bite-size chunks (sweet & mild)
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, minced (you can use less if you want)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 12 cup grated pecorino romano cheese

directions

  • Boil the water and cook the penne according to package directions. DO NOT ever add oil to the water! It will make your sauce slide off the pasta later.
  • Meanwhile, heat the oil (medium-high heat) in a large skillet and saute the broccoli, sausage and garlic until tender and starting to brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Toss the butter, hot pasta, sausage mixture and romano cheese together and serve. Pass the grated cheese at the table.

  1. I took the sausage out of the casing and crumbled it up while browning, just my preference with sausage. Followed another comment on here and added Italian seasoning and onion powder, along with some salt, pepper and turmeric. Then took about a cup of pasta water and mixed it with some better than bouillon chicken base, corn starch and milk. I added that to the pan with the sausage and broccoli and let it simmer until thick. This made a great sauce. I drained the pasta, put it back in the pot to swirl around some butter and then added the buttered pasta into the rest of the ingredients. Fantastic, even my 13 month old loved it!

  2. Great base recipe that I tweaked for personal taste. Hit with the dinner guest. Will add fresh mushrooms next time...but definitely there will be a next time!

  3. Ok, I went rogue, but it turned out fantastic. I sauteed sausage with broccoli, mushrooms, and red pepper. Added olive oil, Italian seasoning, onion powder and garlic and butter. In a cup I mixed corn starch, milk and chicken stock. I poured that into skillet to make a nice sauce. Added cooked pasta. So so yummy

  4. Our entire family enjoyed this! I was hesitant that something with so few, simple ingredients could taste so good- but it was! I loved how quickly it came together.<br/><br/>I'm guilty however of what I hate everyone else doing- I made a few adjustments. I added an onion and epicure pizza seasoning. Also, I reserved some pasta liquid to keep it moist. Yum!

  5. The whole family loved it. Used rigatoni instead, but that's the only change I made.

  3. My additions: 4 large cloves garlic 1/2 sliced white onion 1 large shallot 1/2 pesto 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan Cheese

  4. Doubled the grated parmesean, stirring in half with broccoli stalks and 1/2 cup pasta water allowing to steam 3 minutes, then added florettes, covered and removed from heat. Served with Rattatouie (sp). Excellent!

  5. This can also be made healthier by adding more veggies, using chicken sausage ( I like to take the sausage out of the casing and brown) and use organic brown rice and quiona noodles from Trader Joe's- and I don't even miss the other ones, and I'm Italian too!

I'm a full-time Realtor for Century 21 Graham Realty during the day and at night I'm a wife and mother of one 6 year old daughter, Angelina plus one small dorkie dog (dachshund-yorkie mix) named Petey. I love to cook and experiment with new recipes. I've been collecting cookbooks (I have a few hundred) and recipes for as long as I can remember. I like to buy recipe boxes at yard sales and auctions and peak through them for yummy recipe gems. I've found some really amazing recipes that way. I'm a huge fan of Le Creuset enameled cast iron cookware. I've been collecting different pieces for a few years now. I always considered myself a great cook but these pans raise things to a whole new level.I'm planning to post all of my favorite recipes that I've collected over the years. I have all these clippings and pieces of paper and magazine clips that are everywhere. My recipe boxes are packed with these things and it's time to organize the whole mess. I suppose it will take years (did I say years?!?) to get them all posted but it's worth it. So keep checking back to my posts for new goodies. I can't wait to see what long lost gems turn up. I've already run across several of my old favs. Isn't it nice to have all your best recipes all organized right here? I've also been printing them out and putting them in a nice new binder where I can actually find them when I want to make them. I LOVE this site.I have found some of the best recipes EVER right here on 'Zaar. There are some fantastic cooks here and I just want to say "Thank you" to all of you who have made me look like the greatest cook on the planet with your wonderful recipes. I try to make as many new ones each week as I can. It's so much fun experimenting. My DH of 9 years is my guinea pig- he will eat ANYTHING I put in front of him. My little girl... well, she's more of a challenge to please. Not really picky but she doesn't really like meat or stuffing or peppers or mushrooms or.... oh, the new one is onions. I could go on but you get the idea. You probably have or had one just like her. They seem to learn all about these things that they don't like at school. All of the sudden...they don't like something they've been eating for 3 years because their friend "Alyssa" doesn't like it. What a challenge it is feeding these little creatures! That's her and Petey in the picture above.<img src="http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r317/j_welcome/pics2/food/PRMRcopy.jpg"><img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e110/flower753/Food/soup_banner.jpg"><img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/Recipezaar%20Album/iplaytagin.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/annacia/pt-shutterbug-banner-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/holidaybadge.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/potluckpbanner.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><img src="http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/7505/mybanner4a394ee84d5f0.jpg" ><img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/ZaarStar-AMBanner.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/Sharon123/Copyoftag300-banner.jpg" border="0" alt="Susie's Banner for Newest Zaar Tag"><img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/Animation6.gif"><img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/Banners/holidayprmr.jpg"><img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/Holiday-plaid_HPI.gif"> <img src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/dcmac/PAC%20Fall%2009/Image1.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Participation.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Iwasadopted.jpg"><img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/participantbannerzwt5.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><IMG src ="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z205/jubespage/cupwitchanimation-small3.gif"> <img src ="http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u208/diner_photos/lazymecookathon.jpg"><img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/picwJT0Wr-1.jpg"><img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/Banners/AMBadgeGenTP2009.jpg"><img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/PACsticker-Adopted.jpg">
