Why Home Wiring Repair Premium?

Most of us don’t have the time or the know-how to fix a faulty circuit breaker or electrical outlet. And hiring an electrician for either project can be very costly.

Additional discounts

In addition to the $2,500 coverage benefit, you’ll receive a 15% discount toward noncovered electrical repairs, such as preexisting conditions in your electrical wiring, for just $10.99/month.

Waiting period

There is a 30-day waiting period from the day of enrollment before you are eligible for our repair service. If you need work done sooner, you can apply the 15% discount to the cost of labor.

What Home Wiring Repair Premium doesn't cover

Home Wiring Repair Premium is offered to residential homeowners only. The program does not cover:

  • Appliance repair
  • Code violations
  • Lightning damage
  • Low-voltage wiring
  • Misuse or abuse
  • Obsolete parts (A reasonable substitute may be provided for covered repairs)
  • Upgrades

A complete description of the Home Wiring Repair Premium plan terms and conditions, including aggregate liability limits, is contained in the service contract, which is sent once you enroll.

  • If you were previously a Duke Energy utility customer, your Home Protection Plans were included on your monthly electric bill. However, since you are no longer a Duke Energy regulated utility customer, we cannot add the plan amount to your monthly utility bill. Your credit card will be charged each month for your selected home protection plan(s). You will receive a confirmation email once your payment has been processed.

  • The Home Wiring Repair Premium Plan covers 120/240-volt wiring, switches, outlets, ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacles, breakers, fuses, fuse/breaker panels, the meter-based housing that's attached to the home and the components inside it, ceiling fan, light fixture or plug-in vehicle charging station.

  • No, coverage is limited to your home and attached garage.

  • No, if there are any electrical problems in the home at the time you enroll in the Home Wiring Repair Premium Plan, the problems are considered preexisting and are not covered. Preexisting conditions are however, immediately eligible for a 15% discount off the electrician's normal labor rate.

  • Home Wiring Repair Premium does not cover preexisting conditions, components outside the home or attached garage, repairs or replacements as a result of misuse, abuse, tampering, theft or vandalism, any power-generating or power-consuming devices or equipment.


    The plan also does not cover appliance repairs, code violations, lightning damage, low-voltage wiring, obsolete parts and upgrades.

  • Home Wiring Repair Premium is available to residential customers who live in a single-family home, townhouse, condominium, or manufactured home. Home Wiring Repair Premium is not available at apartment complexes or commercial properties.

  • The annual limit amount is $2,500 per calendar year and $100 of the annual limit can be used for labor installation of ceiling fans, light fixtures or plug-in vehicle charging stations. The $2,500 limit is reset each year beginning in January. As repairs are completed during the year, the cost of the repair is deducted from the annual limit. If you go over the $2,500 limit during the year, you are required to pay the contractor directly for any overages, which are calculated at a 15% discount off the normal labor rate.

  • Yes, there is an initial 30-day waiting period for covered work. If you are a current Home Wiring Repair Essential customer and upgrading to Home Wiring Repair Premium, there is a 30-day waiting period for the annual limit of $2,500. Noncovered work (that is eligible for the 15% discount) is offered as soon as the customer enrolls in either plan.

  • Already enrolled? To schedule your repair, call 866.249.1184. We will dispatch the technician for your service.

  • The 15% noncovered repair discount is a 15% discount off the contractor's normal labor rates and is offered by the contractor for repairs not covered under the Home Wiring Repair Premium Plan.

  • No, all Home Wiring Repair Premium repairs are scheduled by one of our representatives. For repairs, call 866.249.1184. If repairs are completed without contacting econic, the customer would be fully responsible for all charges.

  • Step 1: The customer is responsible for purchasing a ceiling fan, light fixture or plug-in vehicle charging station.


    Step 2: Call 866.249.1184 to request service for installation. Let the representative know if this is a new installation or a replacement of an existing ceiling fan, light fixture or plug-in vehicle charging station.


    Step 3: The contractor will call the customer to make an appointment.


    Step 4: Installation of ceiling fan, light fixture or plug-in vehicle charging station is completed. If installation costs are $100 or less, there is no cost to the customer. If the cost exceeds $100, the customer is responsible for the remaining balance, which is payable directly to the contractor at the time of installation.

  • You can cancel at any time, but there is a $150 reinstatement fee payable in full when you reinstate the plan.

  • You may cancel your plan at any time by calling 866.249.1184.

  • No, only the circuit and wiring that supplies service to the EVSE is covered for repair. An EVSE may be covered with an individual manufacturer warranty. For additional questions on your manufacturer warranty, please contact the supplier of the EVSE.

  • Yes, installation requires for the power to be turned off. The technician may request that you turn off any major appliances or sensitive electronics prior to interrupting the power.
